MAMI IZUMI
Dancer/ choreographer
Kobe (Japan), 1987

“My work is based on physical movement which I use in the same way as I use it as a medium to communicate with my audience during dancing. During the development process I always collaborate with artists from different disciplines, which ensures that we address an even wider audience and we get the chance to learn about each other’s disciplines.”

It is very important to Mami, as a performance artist, to find a platform where she can show her work and build a name for herself. This is a difficult issue, because there aren’t a lot of platforms that make this possible and to provide this in a way that suits her. Mami’s performance Cotton and Blind Walk (produced by GOTRA and co-produced by Via Zuid) were both part of FASHIONCLASH Festival. In 2017 Mami participated in the interdisciplinary Future of Fashion project in Chengdu in China (more images about this project here)

“I appreciate the help of FASHIONCLASH by giving opportunities that do make this possible for a performance artist and giving me the chance to develop my work.”
