MICHI'M X MAXNIEREISEL
Maastricht, The Netherlands

MICHI'M X MAXNIEREISEL is a collaboration between Michelle Cornelissen and Max Niereisel who graduated from Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design in 2019. They share the same vision of what fashion should become if worn by an individual, investigating in different identities that are linked together within pop-culture.

“In uncertain times we stick to the boxes and rules in society. We go back to our stereotypes, the already known. We hold on to norms and values that are created according to age-old beliefs. These self-made identities become our own new norms and values, in accordance with the need to create our own beliefs. The believer. The dreamer, the extreme; these post-modern lives exists through the immortal. It’s time to start again.” In ‘Baby you’d kill me if I wasn’t already death’ MICHI'M X MAXNIEREISEL explore and play with self-made identities and seek the fine lines between reality and fantasy.

PAERS
Heerlen, The Netherlands

PAERS is a menswear label by Ashley Luypaers that reflects upon the notions of self-expression and identity in relation to contemporary men's fashion. Inspired by the limitation of traditionally and culturally informed ideas on masculinity, PAERS designs focus on creating more freedom for male styling.

The ‘OH GOD IT'S DAVID’ capsule collection continues where PAERS’ last collection ended: the manifestation of self-expression within menswear. The collection’s title refers to the so-called ‘ideal’ portrait of men, starting from ancient Greek statues to Michelangelo’s vision of the perfect man ‘David’. The collection strives both to create a space for men where they can feel free from the pressure to abide by long standing traditions and norms in their appearances, as well as to contribute to a general shift in social ideas of gender to change toxic gender standards.

STUDIO | HEEY
Maastricht, The Netherlands

Helène Klein is a visual artist working under the name STUDIO | HEEY, a bold colorful brand that focusses on expressing oneself through jewellery, apparel and wearable art. STUDIO | HEEY is playful while lightly addressing modern day issues and questions and aims to be fun and joyful with a touch of seriousness.

“Bitch. Female. Male. Snake. Demon: these words can be viewed in various ways. The way we view them is often defined by our cultural framework, our background and heritage. Symbols that are regarded in one culture as evil, are considered empowering in another. These words and symbols hold meaning, but they do not define us or capture all that we are.” In the series ‘The One and ONI’, STUDIO | HEEY invites you to play with these words and symbols. Not diminishing them in their cultural value, but re-experiencing them. “Be bold, let's play & be you”

TEUN
Hilversum, The Netherlands

TEUN is brand by designer Teun Seuren who is focused on showcasing collections with a message. Within his collections, he often questions the world around us and plays with different perspectives of masculinity and femininity. TEUN profiles himself as a designer with a fresh perspective, one which blurs the lines of gender and reveals a diverse world.

“Stay at home” - can be a metaphor for how we, the flamboyant, the people of color, and everyone that does not fit the white cis hyper-masculine life are forced to restrain ourselves. As a society we are currently feeling more than ever how oppressive it is to be stripped from our freedom. Even in this situation though, we are still lucky that this is just temporary. However, imagine if your life felt like you had to "stay at home", because society doesn't see you as you are, and tries to define the limits of the space where you can be yourself.”

Turtlehorn
Aachen, Germany

María Voth Velasco graduated of the Maastricht Academy of Fine Art & Design in early 2020. With Turtlehorn, she set up a sustainable streetwear brand, integrating social issues in a fair and local production way; ‘The Turtle’ of Turtlehorn crawls towards slow fashion and a better world, maintaining and developing the focus on sustainability and fair production ways. This often involves social projects, supporting the work of artisan women and contributing to more inclusive, integrative and fair actions.

‘Trashroots’ is a streetwear collection inspired by Maria’s roots in Andalusia, Spain, integrating traditional crafts in a contemporary but urban context, using the “Jarapa” handcraft weaving technique with weaving cotton rests from the textile industry in Seville, where she also collaborated with fashion workers in a disadvantaged neighborhood. The shapes of the clothes reflect to street elements of the city, but also have a grip on actual skate fashion.
