Hundreds of Maastricht residents create a collective textile artwork at Plein 1992
TexTiles BlockParty op Plein 1992
On Sunday, June 7, Plein 1992 in Maastricht will be transformed into a living work of art during the TexTiles BlockParty: a free public celebration where textiles, performance, music, and community come together. The event marks the public highlight of TexTiles, a large-scale participatory art project by FASHIONCLASH as part of Maastrichtjaar 2026.
TexTiles
Over the past few months, hundreds of Maastricht residents—all ages, newcomers to the city and lifelong locals—have each created their own 40 x 40 cm textile tile. Together, these tiles form a monumental textile tapestry that will be fully unveiled for the first time during the BlockParty at Plein 1992. The result is a collective artwork that reflects the diversity, stories, and sense of connection within Maastricht.
Inspired by the Maastricht Treaty, TexTiles invites participants to reflect on questions such as: What does Europe mean to you? Which stories, dreams, or memories do you associate with Europe? While diplomats signed a historic treaty in 1992, residents in 2026 are weaving their own contemporary and human interpretation of Europe through textiles.
The project is a collaboration between FASHIONCLASH and a wide range of partners, including Centre Céramique, Studio Europa, Quiet Community, COA Maastricht, Trajekt, @ease, the Limburgs Museum, art and design schools, educational institutions, and various community organizations.
The highlight of TexTiles is the free and publicly accessible BlockParty at Plein 1992. During this event, the complete textile tapestry will be unveiled for the first time, transforming the square into a living work of art. The program features performances, music, a lecture, a fashion show, and an informal gathering of participants, partners, and communities.

Choir performance: ‘Heart Song of Democracy’ – Floor Budack
Floor Schijn Burdack is an eco-artist and theatre director (graduating class of 2026, Maastricht Academy of Performing Arts). Driven by a desire to reimagine the future and our relationship with the landscape, she works together with her audiences to explore sustainable and collective visions of the future.
Her work is poetic, sustainable, musical, sensory, and rooted in collective participation.
Often referred to as the “heart song of democracy,” Ode to Joy became the European anthem because people embraced it as a song of resistance and peace. On June 7, we will do so again. With a newly written text, Floor Burdack has created an arrangement that anyone can learn in a short time—passers-by, visitors, neighbours, and participants alike.
Will you join your voice with ours in support of a more hopeful world?

Performance Valerie Ludwig – ‘THE FIRE AT THE END OF MY THROAT’
Valerie Ludwig is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of performance, ritual, and socio-political protest. Her practice is rooted in radical feminism, with the embodied knowledge of the female body as a starting point for exposing structures of oppression and opening pathways toward collective healing. Through voice, movement, and a range of artistic elements, Valerie explores how the body can function as an instrument of transformation and resistance—paying attention to what it carries, where it opens, and where it finds liberation.
“THE FIRE AT THE END OF MY THROAT” is a ritual choral performance that moves through anger, grief, and madness. The performance explores how the wounded female body can be given a voice and become a site of collective repair and resistance. The female voice shifts from requiem-like melodies, mourning the silenced and violated body, to raw expressions of anger and protest.
The performance approaches the body as an open wound—a gateway through which transformation becomes possible. Anger is not treated as a force of destruction, but as a means of creating new space for reclaiming, restoration, and healing. Through the voice, the work explores how the female body remembers, resists, and ultimately opens pathways toward collective liberation and healing.

17:45–18:00 Drag performance by MISS MIA MORE x LOENA MAAS
Miss Mia More (Teun) graduated from the HKU (Utrecht School of the Arts) in 2017/2018. After graduating, Teun has presented multiple times at FASHIONCLASH with collections focused on gender, diversity, celebration, individuality, and acceptance. Since 2026, Teun has relaunched under studio M.O.R.E., a promising studio in which costume, couture, drag, and exuberance take center stage.
Their drag persona, Miss Mia More, is a true fashion fool. After years of being teased and laughed at, she is now the one laughing the loudest. Don’t be fooled by her extravagant allure and artistic individuality—she is always watching you. She serves striking looks with a playful twist and tells stories through music mixes and performance. Her drag ranges from queen to king to beings of all kinds. Mia More is a true surprise.
Get ready for Mia, because she will leave you craving more.
Loena Maas is a true “Sjeng” from beautiful Maastricht who has since conquered the entire country. As a proud trans woman, she is both the person and the drag performer. While many drag artists present a different side of themselves, she mainly presents an exaggerated version of who she already is.
Through costumes that are just as extravagant as they are impractical, and performances that can best be described as a mix of music, film quotes, and controlled chaos, she creates her work.
All with one goal: to make people laugh and inspire them.
