BUBBLE UP/TRICKLE DOWN: Distorted logos as semantic subversion

XEROXED is an independent publishing platform investigating the relationship between body, garment, and publication through wearables and published objects. Using deadstock materials, discarded paper, and second-hand garments, published with water-based or waste inks, XEROXED explores the printed garment as an artistic medium for social critique, counterculture, dissident practices, and radical design culture.

‘BUBBLE UP/TRICKLE DOWN’ examines how commercial fashion hijacks street style and subculture language, and how low culture appropriates logos and symbols to gain symbolic access. Collectively created artworks and garments aim to provoke alternative perspectives on “fakes” and “counterfeits,” revealing hidden social divides and gaps between social classes.

XEROXED is een onafhankelijk platform dat onderzoekt hoe lichaam, kleding en publicatie met elkaar verbonden zijn.  Met gebruik van deadstock-materialen, weggegooid papier en tweedehands kleding, bedrukt met inkt op waterbasis of restmateriaal, verkent XEROXED het bedrukte kledingstuk als een artistiek medium voor maatschappelijke kritiek, tegencultuur, dissidente praktijken en radicale ontwerpcultuur.

‘BUBBLE UP/TRICKLE DOWN’ onderzoekt hoe commerciële mode streetstyle  en subculturele taal overneemt, en hoe  low culture  juist logo’s en symbolen toe-eigent om symbolische toegang te verkrijgen. De collectief gemaakte kunstwerken en kledingstukken dagen uit om op een andere manier te kijken naar “nep” en “vervalsingen”, en laten verborgen sociale kloven en verschillen tussen sociale lagen zien.
