ESRA COPUR
Designer
Amsterdam

Esra Copur is a Dutch/Turkish designer based in Amsterdam. She started her professional career as a designer after graduating from HKU Fashion Design in 2019. During the process of graduating she completely did her own thing; she didn’t care about disciplines or ‘what fashion is supposed to be’. Esra likes to use fashion in installations - “I love playing with context and proportion”.

Fortunately, people liked Esra’s graduating project and it led her to many great opportunities such as participating in the New Fashion Narratives exhibition at Bureau Europa during FASHIONCLASH Festival 2019. In the process of filling out the Open Call application, Esra was forced to write down what her collection was about and she found clarity in what she stands for. “I really loved the atmosphere of the festival, everyone was super supportive and the work was really diverse, different than most fashion events”.

Esra’s hope for the future is that she can still create independent work. “I hope that in the future creativity will be more appreciated in our society” She would like to collaborate with different people from various disciplines, with a preference to performance.” I think it could be really interesting to see how I can present a collection in a performance, thinking about movement and emotion.”

Esra is 1 of the finalists of the Fashion Makes Sense Award 2020.
