JUDITH VAN VLIET
Fashion Designer
Utrecht, The Netherlands

Judith van Vliet is a Dutch Designer who obtained a degree in Fashion Design at Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (HKU) in 2012. Since 2014 Judith is focusing on both designing and producing clothes with a focus on sustainability.

Each collection or item developed by Judith contains a story; from little personal stories to social and environmental issues, she describes her work as ‘much more than just clothes’. Finding the right materials is one of the challenges Judith faces during the creation process, as she prefers to combine conventional clothes with unconventional materials and shapes. This results in collections that can be seen as both clothes and art. Her latest collection ‘Van Hollandse Bodem’ (in collaboration with shoe designer Amber Ambrose Aurèle) is a collection that contained a lot of research and is mostly made of materials grown or recycled and produced in The Netherlands. “I would like to learn even more about sustainability, especially materials. How can I design as sustainable as possible, but still reach a big audience, and make sustainability accessible for everyone?” Next to developing her own small sustainable collections, Judith also would like to share her knowledge by teaching others about sustainability - “I want to develop myself as a teacher, so I can do projects with both kids and adults to teach them about sustainable fashion, [in order to create a more] sustainable future.

Judith participated in FASHIONCLASH Festival in 2014 (with Chris van den Elzen) and in 2015 and was one of the designers whose work was selected by FASHIONCLASH to present in Chengdu (China) in 2017. In the same year she was also 1 of the finalists in the Fashion Makes Sense Award.
