VERA DE PONT
Designer
Utrecht, The Netherlands

Vera de Pont is a Dutch designer based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Even though she graduated with a master degree from Sandberg Institute 'Fashion Matters' in 2017, her professional career already started in 2015 after finishing a bachelor degree in Design at Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE). Currently her time is predominantly preoccupied by research and development for on-demand production techniques for textiles. Vera likes to dive into techniques ranging from knitting and weaving to 3D printing, silkscreen printing and photography. Moreover, Vera has a fascination for construction and structure which can be translated to software development and machine building.

Vera immediately knows the answer when asked what her proudest achievement is, so far: the presentation she gave at the ‘World of Tomorrow’ event in Karachi, Pakistan. “I am most proud of the situations where I've been able to meet people with a completely different background, culture and see how they express their creativity Also, because it made me reflect on the influence of my own culture on my work.”

Vera was a finalist of the first edition of the Fashion Makes Sense Award in 2017 and she participated in Taskforce Fashion in 2019. She feels like FASHIONCLASH mostly helped to connect her with like-minded people. She remembers meeting with Weike Medendorp during Taskforce Fashion at the ENCI Groeve in Maastricht. While walking past the huge rock walls, they noticed that certain time periods were visible in the rock itself. “It is these types of natural ‘books of history’ that really inspire me. It's like reading a piece of textile or code.”

Her dream for the future is personal and optimistic.” I dream of being an absolute nerd in a world where creativity and engineering blends and to create more space for communication. She hopes to become part of more transdisciplinary, collaborative projects and dialogues. Vera also hopes to accomplish to open a development lab in which other people can experiment with techniques and machines and develop prototypes. “Hopefully this will also allow me to spend more time climbing on rock walls and driving my motorcycle. I'm always very high speed and curious, I hope this will contribute to something positive in society.”
