Sunday 16 November

  • Fashion Makes Sense is FASHIONCLASH’s ongoing participatory programme dedicated to social design, inclusion, and education. The initiative connects professionals and non-professionals — especially young people — in collaborative creative processes.

The exhibition on the third floor of Centre Céramique presents results from several participatory projects, including Mensen Dragen Mensen (People Carrying People) developed with Noah Jansen and partners for Heiligdomsvaart Maastricht. Over 100 participants — aged 3 to 70 + — co-created costumes, banners, and objects made from recycled textiles collected viaRd4 Reinigingsdiensten.

Also featured: presentations by Ecopolitan Magazine, Kunstbende Fashion winner Tara Smit, and students from AMFI’s Hypercraft minor, developed in collaboration with FASHIONCLASH. Upcycling workshops will take place throughout the weekend, and on Sunday 16 November the Fashion Makes Sense Talk, moderated by Carmen Hogg, brings together participating designers and artists.

  • On Sunday, 16 November, the Fashion Makes Sense Talk, moderated by Carmen Hogg, brings together participating designers and artists to reflect on the festival’s participatory and co-creative projects.

Yala Claessens, director of the fashion film The Sneeze, will share insights into the creative process behind this project — developed during the FASHIONCLASH bootcamp in collaboration with Vera van Nuenen and Bent Lochtenberg. Together, they transformed a refreshingly humorous concept into a visually striking short film, blending fashion, performance, and cinematic storytelling.

Arva Bustin will discuss her newest collection Après Nous, exploring how her studio ULTRA ORA uses craft and co-creation to address social and political issues. For this project, she organised collaborative silkscreen workshops as part of a broader exploration of collective making.

Laisy de Andrade Rodrigues will reflect on the Afterparty workshops and the shared creative energy that shaped this interdisciplinary celebration.

Wievien Alberts, coordinator of the Pop-Up Atelier workshops for People Carry People (part of the Heiligdomsvaart Maastricht project), will discuss her experience on this community-based creation and collaboration.

Together, the speakers offer a multifaceted perspective on how creativity, participation, and social dialogue come together within Fashion Makes Sense — the heart of FASHIONCLASH’s socially engaged programme.

Juunam

Bredestraat 13

  • Juunam will be during the FASHIONCLASH festival accommodating two creatives:

Studio Wievien is a creative collective exploring the space between fashion, art, and personal expression. Our work grows from intuition, humor, and a fascination with imperfection. Through playful concepts and material experimentation, we question conventional ideas of beauty and identity. The collective values collaboration and authenticity, creating projects that feel personal yet universal. Studio Wievien sees clothing and objects not just as design, but as a way to tell stories, evoke emotion, and challenge taboos in a light-hearted way.

RE-GARDE values the creative process and shows how attention to making, looking and collecting can lead to beauty and comfort. Each garment begins with a painting and shows moments, frozen in time, painted by Lin Vermeire herself. By painting memories Lin slows down her pace. This feeling she translates into fashion, garments in which people want to feel at home, comfortable and beautiful. The collection will continue to expand slowly and mindfully. Chapter by Chapter.

  • Esra Çöpür is a fashion designer who moves fluidly between disciplines such as installation art, performance, theatre, music, and film.

'Everything I Touch Turns Into Me’. In this work, installations, garments, and image transfers on wood merge into a visual landscape of identity and culture. Esra explores how intuition and creativity shape her identity through patterns and materials. “Everything I make becomes a part of me; sometimes my hands find answers my mind struggles with.”
