Bosnia and Herzegovina
Marko Potkozarac, better known as Marko Feher, is a Bosnian and Herzegovinian fashion designer currently based in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Studying Menswear at Central Saint Martins in London, Marko is in the process of graduating while already making significant waves in the fashion industry. Since founding his brand Marko Feher in 2019, Marko has dedicated himself to designing clothing collections, overseeing production, collaborating with other designers and brands, managing his fashion label, and engaging in various hands-on activities such as tailoring, sewing, and fabric creation.
He describes his design aesthetic as genderless, sustainable, and Yugoslavian. His work is characterized by a commitment to addressing socially responsible topics, sustainability, and conceptual research, all while reflecting personal themes and cultural heritage. Marko draws inspiration from his journey of self-discovery, cultural heritage, and values such as sustainability and social justice, with former Yugoslavia being a significant part of his research having also created an entire collection titled Yugoslavia. His approach to sustainability is integral to his brand ethos. By sourcing dead stock fabrics and offering custom-made garments, he minimizes waste and overproduction. His commitment to ethical practices includes using eco-friendly materials, rejecting leather and fur, and ensuring fair wages and no child labor in his supply chain.
A recurring message in Marko's work is βDon't be selfish and do (over)think!β. Marko dreams of a world free from wars, where everyone can live in harmony. Growing up in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war, Marko is driven by the concept of love and the desire to bridge gaps between different nationalities and religions.
One of the highlights of Marko's career is his commitment to making a difference in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Despite opportunities to live and work abroad, he finds comfort in contributing to positive change in his home country. Witnessing gradual improvements motivates him to continue pushing boundaries and advocating for progress locally. His participation in FASHIONCLASH projects, such as Dress to Protest and the Fashion Makes Sense Award, provided him with a platform to showcase his work internationally and connect with other like-minded designers. Winning the public prize at the Fashion Makes Sense Award for his βMy Grandfather's Legacyβ collection is a testament to his impactful work.
Navigating the challenges of balancing creativity and sustainability, especially in the unique context of Bosnia, has been a significant part of Marko's journey. He aims to further integrate digital tools and software into his design process to enhance efficiency and creativity.
Marko envisions a future where fashion is fully sustainable, inclusive, and cruelty-free, and he sees himself as a key player in this movement. A fun fact about Marko is that he is the first designer from Bosnia and Herzegovina to have a full collection featured at London Fashion Week, an achievement that fills him with pride as he represents his country on a global stage. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunities provided by platforms like FASHIONCLASH, Marko emphasizes the significance of such collaborations in his growth and success.
