Lesbian Grindr

Isabela Herrera is a Polish-Chilean photographer and director exploring the emotional frustration of looking for love in the age of social media and the tensions between desire and online personas. Maizie is a Dutch-Curaçaoan fashion designer highlighting the importance of love, friendship, and community by creating designs in which lesbian people can recognize themselves and each other. Together, they created the digital game ‘Lesbian Grindr’

Inspired by Grindr, a dating app primarily for gay men, ‘Lesbian Grindr’ addresses the lack of hyper-visibility and desire-driven spaces for lesbian people. In the form of an online game, viewers can construct and deconstruct lesbian archetypes using dress-up simulation, facial filters, and physical accessories. By creating their own user or playing through the perspective of the given main character, Jenny, players can explore the longing for a first queer encounter — a process that is often lonely but also exciting.
