Anita Ferrara’s practice explores the body as fertile ground and connective tissue between performance, garment, and dance. She focuses on daily rituals, rehearsal, and acts of cultural production—intimate yet powerful overlooked gestures. Her work investigates the dynamics of the personal wardrobe as a spatial-temporal landscape, shaped by codes, gestures, and the continuous negotiation of identity.
‘The Empty Suit’ is an interdisciplinary project exploring the body as a site where performance, fashion, and embodiment intersect. Drawing from personal, experience-based research, it uses the artist’s own reflections to investigate broader themes. Through collaborations with students, designers, and performers, the project examines materials such as tape and muscular patches. The project addresses the skin as a surface of meaning, rest as resistance in fashion education, and somatic practices in dance. It blends cultural inquiry with material experimentation. The publication is structured around images of adhesive garments co-designed with participants, rethinking the garment as an inclusive, modular system shaped by personal experience, recovery, and collective authorship.

Anita Ferrara onderzoekt het lichaam als vruchtbare bodem en bindweefsel tussen performance, kleding en dans. Ze richt zich op dagelijkse rituelen, repetities en culturele producties – intieme maar krachtige gebaren die vaak over het hoofd worden gezien. Haar werk verkent de dynamiek van de persoonlijke garderobe als een ruimtelijk-temporeel landschap, gevormd door codes, gebaren en voortdurende onderhandelingen over identiteit.
‘The Empty Suit’ is een interdisciplinair project dat het lichaam onderzoekt als plek waar performance, mode en belichaming elkaar kruisen. Het project is gebaseerd op persoonlijk, ervaringsgericht onderzoek, waarbij de maker eigen reflecties inzet om bredere thema’s te verkennen. In samenwerking met studenten, ontwerpers en performers worden materialen zoals tape en spierpleisters onderzocht. Het project behandelt de huid als een oppervlak vol betekenis, rust als verzet in modeonderwijs en somatische praktijken in dans. Cultureel onderzoek wordt gecombineerd met materiaalexperimenten. De publicatie is opgebouwd rond beelden van zelfklevende kledingstukken, samen met de deelnemers ontworpen, waarbij het kledingstuk wordt heroverwogen als een inclusief, modulair systeem, gevormd door persoonlijke ervaring, herstel en collectief auteurschap.
