CLASHLAB
The Dutch idiom Heilige Huisje (“holy house”) sparked a collaboration between three creatives from different fields: dance, sound design, and fashion design. Together, they created a ten-minute performance that intertwines three distinct layers and interpretations of the theme.
Here, the house is understood in a domestic sense: A reflection on cultural frameworks and the spirituality that comes with them.
The performance aims to engage its audience on a multisensory level, provoking reflection on the theme of (gendered) domestic violence.
There is a certain perversity in celebrating the act of pushing something over, in displaying transgressive behavior, for the purpose of addressing, but also healing from, it.
In everything around us, in every action, political tensions are present, yet we often hide in denial, retreating to our so-called happy place.
The soundtrack features the Mariinsky Ballet’s Le Sacre du Printemps.
But what changes when the ritual unfolds without resolution?
When the sacrifice is suspended, no victim, no savior, only the echo of what the act demands?
What remains when the violence is neither denied nor redeemed?
The performance continues to evolve with each iteration and remains so far untitled.
