Claire Sillekens
De zon schijnt precies op je gezicht
With an interest in activism, theatre, engagement of the audience and absurdity Claire Sillekens makes costumes, attributes and decor-pieces to provoke the public into talking about and performing complex encounters in a surreal and made-up society. This in order to elicit conversations about our actual daily encounters. She does this by using a wide range of techniques derived from a background in design and a visually attractive, playful and detailed aesthetic that aims to trick the audience into talking about complex issues.
‘De zon schijnt precies op je gezicht’ consists of collars and attributes for four characters: The Gardener, The Scientist, The Caretaker and The Baker. All of them have a mission that stems from the will to do the right thing. From close by they seem to be reasonable - though absurd - but when looking at the greater picture you can tell their behaviour has drastic results for society at large. The costumes are meant to be worn by the audience, accompanied with an already written monologue which gives away the identity of the character.
