Dot.Coma
Francisco Juliao Romano Ivens is a fashion designer with Portuguese roots, raised in the Netherlands. Growing up between cultures gave him a sharp eye for identity and aesthetics, which now drive his work. He is drawn to online subcultures, internet-born styles, and how they can collide with traditional craft. Prints and textiles are central to his process. In 2023–24 he worked with Walter Van Beirendonck on BananaWinkBoom, developing original prints. His graduation project continues this curiosity, turning digital communities into physical garments.
The ‘Dot.Coma’ project comes from Francisco’s personal experience with the algorithm. By pushing and twisting it, he ended up in wildly different online spaces—K-pop fan groups one moment, QAnon threads the next. That chaos shaped a gonzo way of designing. Each look starts with a profile-photo T-shirt-hoodie, the cut-out acting like a digital avatar. From there, outfits grow out of collages of algorithmic recommendations. ‘Dot.Coma’ shows how the feed can derail—swinging from extremist politics to harmless cat videos—through bold, print-driven, graphic clothes.
