I like things to be simple (a bit naïve)
Kaat van Spaendonck is a visual artist with a background in journalism and philosophy. She explores the personal sphere and brings doubt and the grey areas of thought to the foreground through text, installations, and video.
As we grow up, we learn how to act: be nice, pretty, and not too loud. As we grow older, we may also learn to question these expectations and recognise how unfair they can be. ‘I like things to be simple (a bit naïve)’ is an installation offering glimpses of private, everyday moments. Washing, dressing, and resting reflect on how the awareness of looking and being perceived impacts young women and their everyday lives.
