Paco Teepe
Monumenten T-Shirts
Paco Teepe is an artist who works with fashion and textiles and explores how he can make memories wearable. Wearable in the physical sense, as clothing around the body, but also wearable in a figurative sense, as in how an event or time from the past can be made ‘wearable’ for the mind. Fascinated by the concept of archiving, he wants to preserve and record everything around him. In his artistic practice, he attempts to preserve various memories in the form of a Draagbaar Visueel Archief (Wearable Visual Archive), before time causes them to be forgotten.
Paco Teepe's ‘Monuments T-Shirts’ is a monument made from his childhood home in the form of T-shirts, each printed with objects from specific places in the house. The T-shirt, usually something interchangeable and underappreciated, thus becomes a personal archive piece. Paco transforms clothing into a Draagbaar Visueel Archief (Wearable Visual Archive) that gives a place to the time of his youth. The objects placed on the fabric symbolize the past. By wearing the T-shirts, the memory takes on a physical presence: the past remains visible, alive, and wearable. In this way, Paco creates space to not forget his history, but to literally carry it with him.
