MAIDE
GURBET
Maide is a Dutch-Turkish fashion designer whose work bridges tradition and modernity. Rooted in craftsmanship and handwork, her practice explores traditional techniques reimagined in a contemporary, minimalist language. By merging experimental forms with cultural narratives, she creates garments that honor heritage while offering a fresh perspective on modern fashion.
‘Gurbet’ is a collection that reflects the designer’s personal journey of navigating between two cultures, transforming feelings of displacement into material form. The project was shaped by her parents’ return to Rize, Turkey after more than two decades in the Netherlands, a move that confronted her with a place both familiar and foreign. What began as dislocation evolved into a renewed connection with heritage and with the basket weaving craft once practiced in her family. Learning the technique from local artisans, she translated it into contemporary form. The collection gives space to the quiet knowledge passed down through generations and positions it within a new design language.
