Valerie Ludwig
The songs of girlhood
Valerie Ludwig is a multidisciplinary artist who operates at the edges of performance, ritual, and socio-political protest. Her practice is rooted in radical feminism, where the embodied knowledge of the wounded female body serves as a point of departure to unravel structures of oppression and open pathways toward collective healing. Through voice, movement, and various elements Valerie explores how the body can become an instrument of transformation, healing, and resistance — listening closely to what it carries, where it opens, and where it sets free.
'The songs of girlhood' is a performance research about the eternal and temporary deaths of the female body.
I obeyed and still
I bared my teeth and still
I covered and still
I stayed home and still
I was unpainted and still
I was a child and still
I was an adult and still
I moved cities and still
I lived with roommates and still
I lowered my eyes and still
I cut my hair and still
I was polite and still
I was silent and still
I was alone once
I was lonely
It was dark
It was daylight
I was a girl and like a girl I knew
I bruised , I bled, I died - Safia Elhillo
