Een Ode Aan

Babs Groote Schaarsberg explores what fashion can be: sculptural, sometimes wearable, sometimes an installation. With the usage of only textiles but also structures such as paper, materials are the building foundation part of her craft. Through unexpected elements, such as a working motor, Babs Groote Schaarsberg highlights mechanical objects as they are add visible features that enhance the experience and invite curiosity. Her work is full of details, encouraging people to keep wondering and asking questions about how it was made and what it actually does.

The collection ‘Een Ode Aan’ showcases wearable sculptures inspired by the Bottermarkt in Raalte, where traditional Salland attire is still being worn today. These garments, worn with pride and care, are a visible symbol of local heritage. But what was once self-evident is slowly fading into the background. The sculptures are not replicas, but a tribute in form and material, born from a sense of wonder for the details, rituals, and craftsmanship behind the clothing and the market. The title ‘Een Ode Aan’ (An Ode To) leaves space for imagination and invites personal interpretation, by both artist and viewer.
