SALON/Maastricht - June 1 – June 10, 2012

Against the backdrop of Manifesta 9 in Genk and coinciding with FASHIONCLASH Maastricht 2012 in Maastricht, SALON/ has been invited to realize a project in Maastricht. SALON/ is an initiative of Gijs Stork, Manon Schaap and Cathal McKee, which focuses on the multidisciplinary context in which designers and artists work nowadays. A context that not only transcends the boundaries of the various disciplines, but also the physical confines of the museum, gallery or shop. Their approach leads to striking presentations on equally special locations. The specific interest in the physical, if not traditional crafted quality of the object or design, often forms the link between the different creative disciplines.

With each new edition, SALON/ aspires to connect the existing network to new participants; this time to a creative network in Maastricht and the Euregion. Far beyond traditional oppositions as between center and periphery, craft and concept, fashion and art, and commerce and autonomy, the project primarily addresses how new generations of artists and designers work (together) and give expression to their ideas. During SALON/Maastricht, the work of about sixty artists will be presented at various locations in the city. The project is realized in collaboration with NAiM/Bureau Europa and FASHIONCLASH.
