TexTiles: workshops during FASHIONCLASH Festival 2024

After the series of workshops and the first reveal on June 6th, 2024 during the elections for EU, TexTiles workshops took place during the 16th edition of FASHIONCLASH Festival at Centre Céramique.

TexTiles – A Community Art Project on Europe

TexTiles is a community art project that invites people to express their views and visions of Europe through textile art. Each participant creates a textile tile (40 x 40 cm), inspired by the dimensions of the tiles that pave Plein 1992—the square in front of Centre Céramique, named after the Maastricht Treaty, which laid the foundation for the European Union in 1992.

Launched in 2024 in the context of the European elections, TexTiles is an ongoing initiative with the ambitious goal of covering Plein 1992 with as many textile tiles as possible. The square itself symbolizes European unity, featuring paving stones engraved with the € sign and the year 1992, marking the introduction of the euro.

Through TexTiles workshops, participants are encouraged to reflect on their relationship with Europe and translate their thoughts into textile art. Each piece tells a unique personal story, perspective, or opinion about Europe, creating a powerful collective artwork that grows over time.

By contributing to TexTiles, you become part of a creative dialogue on European identity—one stitch at a time.
