The final results: x Amarte

Once again, the Amarte Fund and FASHIONCLASH joined forces to offer artists from different disciplines the opportunity to experiment with fashion and present new work. From an open call, three artists were selected and paired with fashion designers to collaboratively develop and present new creations.Discover three new installations / performances where fashion clashes with poetry, classical music and performance art.

All three collaborations presented their outcomes as installations at Jan van Eyck Academy, activated through live performances. EMIRHAKIN × David Siepmanalso participated in The Clash House showcase.

EMIRHAKIN × David Siepman presented 'Once it's a memory, it's too late', a work that moves through the architecture of breath and denial, unfolding the erotics of nostalgia through leakage, residue, and the refusal of closure. Memory edges toward form but never arrives—it swells, flickers, withholds. The body, under pressure, does not break but contours, absorbs, and distorts, organizing itself around latency: tension without release, sensation without clarity.

Merel van Slobbe × David Paulus explored contradiction through 'CONTRAST', a multidisciplinary installation examining how contrast and transformation manifest through image, body, and sound. The work unfolds as a dialogue where intimate audio fragments meet physical objects, inviting reflection on the contradictions that exist within yourself and in relation to others—not as a finished story, but as an open invitation to embody, listen to, and celebrate tension and change.

Natálie Kulina × Alyne Li created 'Numina', a performative installation that allows visitors to step into an unfamiliar world, exploring themes of alienation, boundaries, and intercultural and interpersonal dialogue. Encounters with a being inhabiting the installation space provoke questions: Should our worlds be left separate, sacred, and untouched, or should we try to find a common language? Do we give in to curiosity? How entitled do we feel to others' spaces, cultures, and traditions? 'Numina' challenges visitors to wonder about the meaning of collectivity in experiencing and making art.

open call x Amarte 2025

After a successful collaboration in 2024, FASHIONCLASH and Amarte Fonds are joining forces again to offer artists from different disciplines the opportunity to experiment with fashion and present new work during FASHIONCLASH Festival (14-16 November 2025) in Maastricht.

Are you an artist based in The Netherlands? Have you always wanted to collaborate with a fashion maker? Then this opportunity is for you! FASHIONCLASH and x Amarte are looking for three artists with an intrinsic motivation and curiosity to relate to fashion as a discipline.

MORE ABOUT AMARTE FONDS

FASHIONCLASH has already realized many crossovers, mainly focused on collaboration between fashion, theater, dance, and film. This time, we are particularly interested in disciplines with which FASHIONCLASH has had fewer crossovers, such as music & sound, literature, VR & immersive art, or art in public space. Some examples of possible projects include:

  • A music performance where costume is an integral part of the narrative;

  • A site-specific multimedia experience;

  • An installation or exhibition in (public) space;

  • A spoken word performance;

  • An interactive work that engages the audience.

This Open Call is specifically intended for a new generation of artists. Anyone who identifies as an artist - regardless of education, discipline and background - and is based in The Netherlands is welcome to apply.

Coaching trajectory

FASHIONCLASH provides each duo (artist & fashion maker) for x Amarte with a coaching trajectory leading up to their presentation at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2025. You will be assigned an experienced interdisciplinary maker who matches your practice.

 The coaching trajectory includes:

  • An online kick-off meeting with all participants;

  • Up to six coaching sessions (30 minutes per session);

  • An online one-on-one technical production meeting.

Participation in all events within the coaching trajectory is required. The coaching sessions will be scheduled in consultation with the assigned coach.

Phases throughout the trajectory

Phase 1: Matchmaking & Kick-off (May-June 2025)
If you are selected, you will first be connected to a fashion maker that matches your profile, fascination and motivation. FASHIONCLASH will facilitate this connection through its network of makers. After an informal meeting and a mutual agreement, you will join an (online) kick-off meeting with the other selected participants. For further meetings, you will create your own schedule.

Phase 2: Coaching & Development (June- September 2025)
This phase begins with coaching sessions and concept development for your joint project. By the end of this phase, you will submit PR materials (images and texts). We encourage you to develop work that can also be presented at other festivals and events beyond FASHIONCLASH Festival 2025.

Phase 3: Coaching & Production Preparation (September-November 2025)
Coaching sessions continue during this phase. An online one-on-one (technical) production meeting will address all practical details of your presentation. FASHIONCLASH will provide basic technical support if applicable.

Phase 4: Presentation at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2025
The outcome of the collaboration will be presented at FASHIONCLASH Festival, from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 November 2025, in Maastricht. The work can be presented ongoing throughout the festival weekend and/or at specific moments. Each duo will determine a suitable presentation format, including location and context within the festival program, in consultation with FASHIONCLASH. An online evaluation will follow after the festival.
