Butterfly Lovers offers a reinterpretation of the legend with the same name. As their story unfolds, two spirits blur memory and performance until love and identity dissolve into the final act of transformation. Set between London and distant memories of home, the film highlights how gender performance and cultural reinterpretation constructs new queer identities and challenges social norms, gender, and sexuality while celebrating East Asian cultural heritage.
