The Presence of a Body

Danish artist, fashion designer, and sculptor Mia Bøgedal explores challenging conventions and rethinks inherited ideas of beauty and the human silhouette. Her avant-garde practice is experimental, artisanal, and anti-consumerist. Architectural lines and biomorphic abstraction define her aesthetic, creating forms charged with asymmetrical tension, movement, and unpredictability.

What might a body that does not fit reveal about us? A fleshy, moulded-leather form entangled with excessive drapery: a body that never found a straight way to appear, held in absence and abstraction. ‘The Presence of a Body’ holds elegance and repulsion in tension. What appears is neither monstrous, beautiful, nor entirely human.
