Soojeong Lee

Ritual for the absence of suffering

Soojeong Lee is a fashion designer and artist whose work is based on visualising and archiving personal suffering and the persistent questions that confront us as we live on. Through her practice of making and research, she dives deeper into the emotional layers and complex knots that dwell within us. Her work does not aim to resolve suffering, but to witness and accept its existence, finding beauty by creating space for recognition and quiet understanding.

This performance is a personal interpretation of a Korean shamanic ritual that enacts a raw, desperate yearning to be free from deep-seated anxiety, pain, and emotional suffering. Drawing inspiration from Korean traditional shamanic rituals (Gut 굿), the work transforms personal suffering into a public ceremony of release.
