Berber Struiksma

Meisje verstopt zich

Berber Struiksma’s work as a costume designer moves between theatre, fashion, and fine art. They work exclusively with second-hand materials, reconstructing them into new pieces through a collage-like process that allows the work to keep moving and growing. Berber gives costumes their own identities, approaching fashion as something that depends on a body and its movements to become a character. By working with discarded materials, they allow each piece to carry traces of its previous owners, describing them as little monsters that do not fit within the typical fashion industry.

‘Meisje verstopt zich’ brings together costumes made over the years and reinterprets and reconstructs them into new garments. Carrying the stories of those who came before, they become the starting point for a new story. A new characteris born.
