Expansión Uterina

Sarah Palomares is an interdisciplinary artist working with textiles, sculpture, performance, and installation. Her work explores the body as a living territory and the relationship between bodies and materials. She approaches making as an intimate and sometimes ritualistic process, allowing materials and the body to influence one another.

‘Expansión Uterina’ is a year-long research project consisting of a series of handmade textile pieces. The work explores the uterus as the first environment inhabited by human life, but also as a space shaped by memories of control, medicalisation, and violence towards bodies that carry or have carried life. The textile forms can exist independently in space or be worn on the body. They become extensions of the uterus and explore the relationship between body, uterus, maternal lineage, and memory. Through soft materials and forms that move between object and body, Sarah brings the human body back into relation with its first environment.
