De Bijenkorf

What happens when Maastricht’s history gets a new outfit?

For ‘Sterren van de Stad’ (stars of the city), Maastricht heroes were paired with local designers, who translated their stories, character and significance into contemporary fashion designs. Rather than recreating historical clothing, the designers created their own interpretations, offering a new way of looking at the city and its history through fashion.

At De Bijenkorf, you can discover five unique designs, each inspired by a different Maastricht icon:

André Rieu — Deniece Clermonts & Max Niereisel
Romance, grandeur and nostalgia come together in a theatrical look inspired by Rieu’s music and his world of grand classical concerts.

Petrus Regout — Floris van Lammeren
A design that brings together two sides of Regout’s history: industrial ambition and the world of the workers who shaped Maastricht’s industrial past.

De Stedenmaagd — Emma Magermans
Inspired by Maastricht’s female city figure, this design explores identity, tradition, protection and feminine strength.

Karel de Grote — Linda Friesen
Inspired by the image of Charlemagne as a powerful warrior, this look combines elements of armour, velvet and strong, simple forms.

Mestreechter Geis — Wievien Alberts
A playful interpretation of the Maastricht spirit, featuring humour, symbols, embroidery and unexpected details. The design also references the local concept of the Sjeng.

Together, these five designs show how fashion can connect history, identity and the stories of a city with a contemporary perspective.
